Opening Day Loss Shows Light and Dark

Well, that was disappointing.

But there were some Pros:
1) Starlin Castro’s Speed: 2 infield singles, 3 hits
2) Starlin Castro’s Defense: 2 Nice plays
3) Early Offense: Up 2-0 to start the game
4) Aramis Ramirez: Had a good game at the plate
5) Starlin Castro’s Determination: Attempted to turn plays he had no chance at but without blowing the game.
But the cons were:
1) Dempster in the second half of his outing: 2 home runs, including a grand slam allowed.
2) Geovany Soto’s offense: He could never pull it together.
Well, we lost Opening Day in 2008 too, and we stayed in this game until the final batter grounded out.  Lets go back out and win one tomorrow!

Opening Day is Here!

The day we’ve all been waiting for since last October, or, if we are lucky enough, since October 14, 1908, is finally here.

Will today be like 2008, when a rookie, Kosuke Fukudome’s, 9th inning 3-run Home Run tied the game 3-3, only to lose in the 10th innings but starting a magnificent season of Chicago Cubs baseball?
Or maybe like 2009, when Alfonso Soriano hit the second pitch of the season out of the park as the Cubs put up huge numbers and won, but at the start of a disappointing season?
Or maybe, and hopefully not, like 2010 where the offense picked up its game only for the pitching to falter as the Cubs lose 16-5 to start another disappointing season highlighted by rookies Andrew Cashner, Starlin Castro, and Tyler Colvin?
Or maybe the 2011 Cubs write their own story against the Pittsburgh Pirates and simply “Win one for Ronnie”?  Only time will tell, but today’s game should be exciting regardless.

Darwin Barney Wins Opening Day Second Base Job

According to Cubs beat writer Carrie Muskat’s twitter, the Cubs have selected Darwin Barney to start on Opening Day at second base.  Barney made his major league debut last season and is applauded most for glove, while showing that he can hit this spring.

The line-up for Opening Day will be:
RF #1 Kosuke Fukudome
SS #13 Starlin Castro
CF #24 Marlon Byrd
3B #16 Aramis Ramirez
1B #22 Carlos Pena
C   #18 Geovany Soto
LF #12 Alfonso Soriano
2B #15 Darwin Barney
P   #46 Ryan Dempster

Who Should Be The Opening Day Second Baseman?

I personally prefer Darwin Barney.  What do you think?  Please vote for who you think should be the Cubs 2nd Baseman on Opening Day,
